Biography

Dr. Baduku Silas Anthonia is an accomplished sociologist, criminologist, and academic with over two decades of research, teaching, and administrative experience in the Nigerian university system. She currently serves as an Associate Professor of Sociology and the Director of the Centre for Gender Studies at Kaduna State University (KASU), where she leads academic programming, institutional research, and public advocacy on gender equity, social welfare, and community development.

Her academic career is grounded in a deep commitment to understanding social dynamics, criminology, and gender structures within the context of Northern Nigeria. Over the years, she has conducted extensive research on criminal justice administration, community policing, juvenile delinquency, and gender-based violence, contributing significantly to policy debates and institutional frameworks in these areas.

Dr. Anthonia holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Sociology, a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Sociology, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Sociology, all from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. Her doctoral research focused on the intersections of community policing and crime reduction, offering practical models for security governance in Kaduna State.

As a leading voice in gender studies, she has facilitated numerous workshops, policy dialogues, and community outreach programmes aimed at advancing women's empowerment, girl-child education, and social protection for vulnerable populations in the Arewa region. Under her leadership, the Centre for Gender Studies at KASU has expanded its collaborative networks with national civil society organisations, international development partners, and state agencies.

A dedicated mentor and educator, Dr. Anthonia has supervised dozens of undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, fostering the next generation of sociologists and social researchers in Northern Nigeria. She is active in several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Anthropological and Sociological Association (NASA) and the Social Science Academy of Nigeria.
